Title: Assistant Principal
Accountable to:
- Building Principal; Superintendent
Primary Objective:
- To create and foster an environment in which pupils can learn most effectively
Evaluation:
- Per Contract; Based on Illinois Performance Standards and Rubric for School Leaders
Qualifications:
- Professional Educator License (PEL) with Administrative Endorsement
- Demonstrated experience implementing MTSS initiatives
- Demonstrated success facilitating the development of initiatives/systems that resulted in improved student achievement
- Five years of teaching experience preferred
- Experience coordinating extracurricular activities preferred
- Strong technology skills required (e.g., experience using student management and application management software)
Essential Job Functions:
- Serve as instructional leader in ensuring quality programs for students.
- Assure the safety of students and staff at Mokena Junior High and any other school-sponsored event.
- Develop and maintain positive and productive relationships with all MJHS stakeholders (students, parents, staff, community, school board, and district office personnel).
- Has primary responsibilities for student discipline.
- Develop and maintain positive and productive communication systems with all MJHS stakeholders, including social media, and building websites
- Acts as the 504 Coordinator for the building.
- Serve as administrative representative on District curriculum committees.
- Attend all meetings appropriate to the assistant principal position.
- Coordinate and plan student activities and events.
- Serve as Athletic Director.
- Recruit, supervise and evaluate teaching staff.
- Recruit, supervise and evaluate non-certified staff
- Facilitate the collaborative development, finalization, implementation, and evaluation of an annual School Improvement Plan.
- Attend Board of Education meetings as requested.
- Attend building, district, and community events to demonstrate support for students, staff, and programs affiliated with MJHS and Mokena School District 159.
- Has primary responsibility to schedule, train staff, coordinate accommodations, for building-wide assessments.
- Develop yearly class schedules and teacher assignments.
- Complete all federal, state, county, and district forms and reports.
- Assume the Principal's responsibilities when he/she is out of the building.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Bending, carrying, climbing, must be able to travel between job sites, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking
- Must be able to occasionally lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs., such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture
- Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff
