Job Title: Paraprofessional
Primary Objective:
- Attend to the care and supervision of an assigned group of students or one individual student throughout the school day in accordance with the student’s learning needs by performing duties including, but not limited to assisting with instructional, physical, social/emotional/behavioral needs with an awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies
Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Educator License with Stipulations (ELS); endorsed as a Paraprofessional Educator from the Illinois State Board of Education
- Work well with minimal supervision and able to effectively and efficiently prioritize and complete multiple tasks simultaneously with attention to detail
- Able to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
- Friendly and professional attitude as well as discretion in matters relating to students, parents, staff members, and office business matters
- Work well with others
- Computer skills necessary, including Microsoft Office and/or Google Suite
- Adept at learning and using other related software and web-based programs
Accountable to:
- Supervising Teacher, Principal, Assistant Principal
Evaluation:
- Per the Board of Education’s policy on the evaluation of Educational Support Personnel
Essential Job Functions:
- Assist in the implementation of the curriculum in accordance with a student's Individual Education Plan or language needs under the direction of the supervising teacher
- Maintain data records as directed by the classroom or supervising teacher
- Modify the learning environment to accommodate the unique needs of the students assigned
- Communicate to the supervising teacher any changes observed in the student’s behavior or response to specific stimuli or situations
- Assist the students in health-related or hygienic procedures to maintain a safe and caring environment conducive to the learning needs of the students
- Adapt classroom activities to support the successful inclusion of the student in regular school programs under the guidance of the supervising teacher and general education teacher
- Keep in confidence all records of the school office
- Attend building level faculty meetings as required
- Perform additional duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Bending, carrying, climbing, lifting, pushing, pulling, reaching, sitting, standing, and walking
- Have the ability to travel between job sites
- Must be able to lift, move, or push items of 50 lbs., such as assisting children or moving/rearranging furniture
- Must be able to supervise students in all types of weather
- Meet multiple demands from several people and interact with the public and other staff
- Certification in CPI, if assigned to special education
